The meteoric rise of one of the world's largest Ponzi schemes in Nigeria (MMM)

(CNN)- In spite of the government's warnings against it, many Nigerians continue to invest in Mavrodi Mundial Movement (MMM), a Russian company that was responsible for one of the world's largest Ponzi schemes of all time.
On 13 December, the company said it was 'freezing' all confirmed accounts. While many that are opposed to the scheme believe the suspension may be an indication of an imminent collapse, MMM Nigeria assured its members it was only freezing the system for a period of one month.

ASUU Strike: We don’t have money to pay lecturers – Federal Government

The Federal Government said on Wednesday that it has met seven of the eight demands of aggrieved university lecturers.
One of the demands that could not be met is the N284 billion allowance owed the lecturers, and which the government cannot meet now because of “recession,” an official said.
The university lecturers, ASUU, embarked on a one week warning strike last Wednesday which was called off yesterday evening.

PHYTOCHEMICAL AND PROXIMATE ANALYSIS OF Azadirachta indica BARK AND LEAF



ABSTRACT
The proximate and phytochemical analysis of Azadirachta indica was investigated. The bark and the leaves were first extracted by using both aqueous and ethanol solutions. Proximate analysis showed the leaves to contain 84.50  0.1 Moisture, 2.52  0.02 Ash, 4.61 0.01 Protein, 0.062  0.02 Fat, 2.64 0.01 Fibre, 89.53  0.02 Carbohydrate, while the bark contained 49.50  Moisture, 7.10  0.1 Ash, 3.30  0.1 Protein, 0.81  0.01 Fat, 6.65  0.02 Fiber and 81.9  0.01 Carbohydrate. Phytochemical screening showed very strong presence of Alkaloids, Glycosides, Flavonoids, Reducing compounds and Polyphenol in both aqueous and ethanol extract of the leaves while the bark showed appreciable presence of Alkaloids, Reducing compounds and Polyphenol in both aqueous and ethanol extracts. Tannins, Phlobatanin Anthraquinones and Hydroxymethyl anthraquinones are absent in the bark of the plant while the leaves do not contain Phlobatanin, Anthraquinones, Hydroxymethyl anthraquinones in both aqueous and ethanol extracts. Saponins were also discovered to be absent in ethanol extracts of both the leaves and bark of the plant. It is discovered that these compounds are present in both the leaves and the bark hence their combined use in traditional remedies with same therapeutics effects in treatment of malaria and other ailments.

Buhari okays N93bn to fund first phase of homegrown school feeding in 2016 budget across the country

To ensure the effective implementation of the National Home-grown School Feeding, HGSF, Programme, the Buhari presidency has already provided enough funds in the 2016 budget that will ensure that in the first instance 5.5 million primary school pupils would be served one free hot meal a day.

Woman allegedly set ablaze by husband in Benin following a disagreement







A man has been arrested by police in Edo State for allegedly setting his wife ablaze following a disagreement over his refusal to attend her father's funeral.

According to PM News, the man identified as Onya on Saturday, June 11, poured petrol on his wife, Margaret Onya and set her on fire at their residence located at No. 35, JB street, Ekosodin quarters, off Ugbowo-Lagos Road, Benin City.
